Former Manchester United footballer Ravel Morrison will appear in court today charged with assault.

The Premier League player, now with West Ham, is due at Manchester Magistrates' Court accused of two counts of common assault after allegedly punching and slapping his ex-girlfriend Reah Mansoor, 19, and her mother, Parveen Mansoor, 39, in the early hours of Sunday July 27.

Morrison, 21, of Welwyn Close, Urmston, Manchester, was refused bail and remanded in custody for a week after his arrest and first appearance in court last Thursday.

Having spent the weekend behind bars, he was released on Monday after his lawyers successfully made a bail application to Judge Michael Henshall during a private hearing at Manchester Crown Court.
