A TEENAGE diver is hoping to entice Stretford shoppers into an underwater world of adventure.
Keen scuba diver Jared Logan, one of the youngest members of the Sub C Divers branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC), is promoting the ‘amazing’ sport ahead of the Life’s a Beach event at Stretford Mall from August 6 to August 9 ,running from 11 am to 4 pm each day.
Despite only joining a year ago, the 14-year-old said he already knows it will be a hobby for life – and now he's calling on others to take the plunge.
The Golborne High School pupil said: “I’ve never been a very sporty person but my nan suggested a few different hobbies to me and I liked the sound of scuba diving as I’d always been interested in aquatic sports,” he said.
“I was quite a nervous person when I started but it has definitely boosted my confidence and given me skills I wouldn‘t normally have.
“I’d definitely recommend that people give it a go.”
Members of Atherton-based Sub C Divers will be making waves at the Life’s a Beach event next month, where the landlocked shopping centre will be transformed into a sandcastle-filled spectacle with
Stretford Mall manager, Colin McCrory, is looking forward to welcoming the club to the annual event, which runs from 11am until 4pm each day from August 6 to 9.
He said: “It will be great to have the Sub C Divers at this year’s event which will provide a platform for them to encourage new members to take up scuba diving.
“There will also be a chance for shoppers to find out more about summer promotions amongst our retailers and for children to make the most of the fun seaside activities on offer.”
The Sub C Divers meet every Wednesday evening from 8pm until 10pm at Howe Bridge Sports Centre on Eckersley Fold Lane, Atherton.
