A POLICE car chase resulted in four officers being injured after a serious smash in Altrincham.
Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident, which took place in the early hours of Sunday morning. (July 27)
Officers in Manchester city centre attempted to pull over a Fiat Punto at around 2am and when it failed to stop, they pursued it along the A56, Chester Road, towards Altrincham.
When the Fiat reached the junction of Manchester Road and Barrington Road, in Altrincham, it collided with a liveried police VW Crafter van.
Four police officers from the van were injured including one who suffered serious injuries and remains in Wythenshawe hospital.
One of the passengers in the Fiat also sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Fiat, a 29 year-old man, has been arrested for dangerous driving and section four unfit to drive, and remains in custody.
The police drivers' driving authority have been temporarily revoked pending the standard review process.
The junction was closed until 8am on July 27 and roads were reopened later that day.
