TWO young people from south Trafford are about to follow in the footsteps of some of the greatest names in showbusiness by appearing at the Palace Theatre.

Bethan Harrop, 20, from Sale and 17-year-old Hale resident Michael Gardiner are to star in the high energy musical Footloose.

The show is being produced Stage Experience, the Palace's youth theatre and the role of Wendy-Jo is perfect for Bethan, who attends the Northern School of Contemporary Dance.

She said: "i am a dancer and was so happy the musical was dance related. Next year I hope to be touring with a dance company as I will have finished my degree."

This is Bethan's second production with Stage Experience and she played the part of Jan in the classic 50s inspired feel good musical Grease last year.

Bethan said her favourite musical is Wicked and her favourite song from a show is I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables.

She will be joined on stage by Pendleton College student Michael Gardiner as Willard.

He said: "In previous years I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the production. I love performing and Footloose is an incredibly enjoyable show to do as it is very energetic and comical, especially for my character Willard. The show will allow me to be challenged in all aspects."

Michael said he expects to experience a few butterflies before he steps out on to the Palace stage, a theatre that has played host to iconic artists like Laurel and Hardy, Judy Garland and Danny Kaye.

But he said: "I think the excitement of performing such a brilliant show alongside a very talented and dedicated cast will take over."

Michael said a show called Newsies is his favourite musical and Hey, Good Lookin' is his favourite musical number.
