A FRIENDS group has been awarded more than £6,000 to help it continue to improve a Flixton park.
Abbotsfield Parkies were granted a share of £1.7 million National Lottery funding in order to refurbish Chassen/Abbotsfield Park's community cafe, including new flooring and furniture.
The parkies hope the new cafe will provide the community with a safe, warm and dry place to meet and socialise and enable residents to hold community events and activities.
Cllr Paul Lally said: "Project leader and chairman for this Friends of the Park group, Lisa Smith, and her merry band of volunteers has worked tirelessly to reinvigorate the pavilion on Chassen Park.
"The monies received from the lottery will breathe life into this facility not utilised for years.
"Clearly the community who use the park will directly benefit from this project and will enhance future visits.
“I am extremely proud of Lisa, her dedication to this project will benefit our entire community."
