THE mother of a toddler who ‘owes her life’ to hospital staff is hoping to repay them with a charity fundraiser at a Stretford Mall travel agents.

Kira Foden said her daughter Kallie-Mai, who was born nine weeks premature, would not have survived without Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital staff.

So, to repay them, the mum-of-two is pushing the fundraising event at Co-operative Travel, where she works, from July 10 -14.

The foreign exchange cashier, from Stretford, said: “I didn’t have an easy pregnancy and developed a blood condition which meant I had to give myself injections every day.

“At around 28 weeks, I began to get concerned as I wasn’t feeling the baby move and so I was admitted into hospital to be monitored.

Doctors told her the baby wasn't growing and she was induced at 31 weeks.

She added: “Kallie-Mai was born weighing just 3lb and after she was delivered, she had to be resuscitated twice.

“She was so tiny and had to learn how to feed and breathe at the same time but she was doing so well that she was allowed home after three weeks.”

However, regular visits to the hospital continued for the first 18 months of Kallie-Mai’s life as she contracted pneumonia, developed breathing problems and was also having treatment to shrink a birthmark on her nose.

But now aged two, the toddler has just been discharged from the neonatal unit and continues to make good progress.

And in a bid to show her gratitude, the mum-of-two is pushing the fundraising event, which involves customers buying raffle tickets to be in with a chance of winning two flight tickets from Manchester to New York and Miami.

Tickets are available from Co-operative Travel in Stretford Mall or the Thomas Cook store in Chorlton.
