Several men barged into an Altrincham home and threatened a 12-year-old girl with a knife.

At around 10.45pm on Sunday, July 6, several men went into the Ellesmere Road property through the unlocked front door.

They went upstairs and discovered the girl in her room – they took her mobile phone and one of the offenders put his hand over her mouth and told her to be quiet.

He told her he had a knife and demanded cash.

The men searched various rooms of the house but left empty handed and were seen to leave in the direction of the railway line at the bottom of Ellesmere Road.

The girl was not injured.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses.

Det Con Paul Walls said: "The girl was alone in the house at the time as she had briefly gone back home from a neighbouring house to get something.

"She was confronted by at least two men in her room while others searched the rest of the house. They were all wearing black face masks and gloves and one of them is described as being white with blue eyes and was wearing Nike tracksuit bottoms.

"Nothing was taken and fortunately the girl was not harmed, however I would ask anyone with information to contact police.

"I would also remind residents to be vigilant. Report any suspicious activity and make sure you keep your doors locked."

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 7530 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
