THEY are off on tour with Paulo Nutini later this month and Urmston group, The Rainband, will go out on a high with a special acoustic gig in their home town.

The Rainband will return to the Steamhouse – where they played their first ever gig – on July 13, when landlord Rob Foster will also launch a special ‘The Rainband’ beer in tribute to the band’s success.

Lead singer, Martin Finnigan, said: “Lots of people in the last year have asked us when we would do something again in Urmston.

“The last time was Chassen Park with the Bootleg Beatles which was special.

“We’ve been lucky to tour with bands like Simple Minds, Kaiser Chiefs but ultimately, me and Phil (Rainey) started the band there and played our first gig there with two acoustic guitars and two vocals.

“When Rob came up with the idea of naming a beer after the band and also with us releasing new single ‘Built for change’ on July 13, it kind of caught the imagination to do this.

“It’s a free show and all are welcome. We’ll do some of ours but also like we did when we started, expect some covers by the Stones, Beatles and some Manchester classics.”

Martin said touring with Paulo will be the pinacle of the band’s career so far.

“He’s at the top of his musical powers right now and is amazing live.

“I met Paolo when we played last year’s Italian Moto GP and he came to see us.

“He liked the sound and vibe of the band and I became good friends with both Paolo and his Dad, Alfredo.”
