More than 1,500 people are expected to visit Urmston this weekend for an exhibition aimed at families and professionals caring for a person with dementia - and we're giving you the chance to win FREE tickets.

The Alzheimer’s Show, which is being held at EventCity in Urmston on Friday (July 4) and Saturday (July 5) will give direct access to information, products and services.

The show, which is being held in association with Alzheimer’s Society and national social care charity, Community Integrated Care, will feature exhibitors from dementia and care specialists that will be able to share ideas and advice about living aids, funding, legal issues, assistive technology, research, education, finance and entertainment.

The Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Community Roadshow bus will also be on the show floor and a Dementia Friends information sessions will be held for more than 100 people.

George McNamara, head of policy and public affairs for Alzheimer’s Society, is speaking at the event.

He said: “We are delighted to be involved in the show. It is fantastic that so many people will gain further awareness of dementia through Dementia Friends and see how they can help create dementia-friendly communities.

“The event will be inspiring, packed full of information, practical advice, products and services, which will show how people with dementia, their carers and families can live well.”

Other top speakers and experts include the Rt. Hon. Hazel Blears, MP for Salford and Eccles, Professor Nigel Hooper and Professor Start Pickering Brown, both from the University of Manchester, Dr Ann Johnson MBE, a retired nurse lecturer, who is living with dementia and Cath Murray-Howard, deputy CEO of Community Integrated Care.

Cath said: “Dementia is a challenging condition, which is why people affected by it should have access to the best advice and support possible. As one of Britain's biggest charity provider's of dementia care, Community Integrated Care is supporting The Alzheimer's Show for this very reason.

Mancunian cartoonist Tony Husband, famed for his work in Private Eye, will be talking about his new book ‘Take Care, Son’ an honest, emotional account of his father’s dementia.

There will also be daily ‘Question Time’ and open mic sessions as well as the opportunity to hear personal experiences of caring for a person with dementia and a series of practical advice talks.

Admiral Nurses will be running free and confidential one-to-one consultations, and there are free practical workshops including seated yoga, music, singing, technology and nutrition.

A ‘Quiet Area’ will be hosted by Community Integrated Care, where family members or carers can leave a person with dementia in a calm environment supported by a specialist team.

The show is being held between 9.30am until 5pm on the Friday and until 4.30pm on the Saturday.

EventCity is on Phoenix Way, off Barton Dock Road, Urmston, next to the Trafford Centre. There is free parking and there are good public transport links.
