OLYMPIC legend Beth Tweddle was guest of honour at Flixton Girls’ School, taking part in the school’s Sports Awards Evening.
Beth inspired the pupils and advised them to always try a sport, as she started with trampolining and horseriding before realising her love for gymnastics.
She advised the students at the school that they may not succeed first time, citing her 4th place in the 2008 Olympics, but that there is always a way to reach their goals and achieve their dreams if they try.
The multiple oold medal winner is the most successful British gymnast in the history of the sport, and joined FGS staff, pupils and parents to celebrate and applaud the achievements of the school on the evening Beth was joined by Craig Heap, Commonwealth Games Gold gymnast medalist and Olympic representative. They joined staff, parents and pupils to watch a range of performances from all year groups. These included a Commonwealth Games themed dance, a gymnastics floor routine, some martial arts, Latin ballroom dance solo.
Deputy headteacher Lisa Fathers said: “We constantly improve in sport and encourage all our pupils to embrace some form of it, be it football, dance, or taking part in our Fitness Fridays, in which all the staff get involved. PE and sport gives so many life lessons as well as contributing towards health and in addition to rewarding achievements, this event helps to promote an ongoing message of ambition and the desire to improve.”
