A THOUSAND girls and volunteers from Trafford and Salford areas joined together at a MediaCityUK for a celebration that kept them on their toes – quite literally.

The girls, all between seven and 10 years and Brownies from Girlguiding Greater Manchester West, attempted to break a world record of the most people doing the moon walk at the same time, as part of their Big Brownie Birthday Star Quest adventure.

The world record attempt was part of an unusual event during which the girls celebrated 100 years of Brownies by joining together to mark The Big Brownie Birthday with a space-themed spectacular.

More than 600 Brownies moon walked for a total time of 46 seconds; all evidence has been sent to the Guinness World Records to be officially verified.

Judith Glenn, county commissioner for Girlguiding Greater Manchester West, said the landmark celebration was ‘fantastic.’
