CORRIE actors lent their star power to help launch Trafford's Armed Forces Day.

The Rovers Return provided the backdrop as cast members joined forces with Trafford Council and regular and reserve troops from 207 Field Hospital, Royal Logistic Corps and the Irish Guards to 'fly the flag' for Armed Forces Day on June 28.

Trafford is promising a day to remember as it puts the finishing touches to a huge free family fun day at Larkhill in Timperley, between 11am and 4pm.

Organisers hope the event will give everyone the chance to celebrate and thank the contribution and sacrifices the armed forces make.

On the day, there will be opportunities to meet serving regular and reserve soldiers, explore military vehicles and equipment used on operations.

There will also be children’s inflatables, face painting, cadet drill demonstrations and lots of armed forces information stalls.

Trafford Council leader, Cllr Sean Anstee, said: "It is fantastic for Trafford's efforts to involve all its local communities in celebrating Armed Forces Day to be endorsed by such familiar, well-known faces who feature on our screens each week.

“It is important that we acknowledge the efforts of our armed forces, in peacetime as well as in war zones across the world.

“It is thanks to their dedication, commitment and determination to protect and help people that we live as we do today.

“We all owe them a great debt of gratitude and I'm urging as many people as possible to come along, celebrate, have fun and remember with us on June 28."
