A 10-year-old boy from Urmston took part in the Great Manchester Junior Run on Saturday, raising more than £1,000 for charity in the process.

The event marked Evan Hoult’s sixth year running the Christie, having raised more than £2,000 for the specialist cancer treatment hospital during that time.

The Davyhulme Primary School pupil first took part in the BUPA Mini Manchester Run, which is a 2km race for three-eight year olds and has now progressed to the Junior Run, which is a two mile race for nine-15 year olds.

Evan, who lives with his family in Redesmere Park, runs for the Christie because his aunty and his friend’s dad both died from cancer.

His mum, Ruth, said: “It went really well on the day, he struggled a little because it was so hot, but he did really well.

“This year he was mainly doing it for his friend at school because his dad died of Leukemia last year and he’s been doing it for his aunty for several years now.

“We’re very proud of him.”
