A FORMER shop keeper celebrated turning 100 recently.

Margaret Olwyn Sanger, who is known as Olwyn, moved to Sale in 1955, having been born in Salford on April 27 1914, but has lived in Timperley Care Home, on Mainwood Road, for the past two years.

Olwyn has been widowed since 1983 but has one son, Phillip, whom she sees often.

Phillip said: “She’s done marvellous really, I think anyone who reaches that age has done very well.

“She’s still quite with it even though she’s been registered blind since the year 2000 and it’s been a bit of a struggle for her since then really.

He added: “She’s a very amiable, friendly woman – a friend to everyone.”
Olywn still enjoys singing and listening to music.
