TRAFFORD Council is issuing a final call to residents to apply to hold street parties in celebration of its 40th birthday.

On April 1 1974, Trafford Metropolitan Council was formed, which created Trafford as a single borough.

Trafford Partnership and Trafford Council are celebrating this 40th year anniversary with a programme of activities that will celebrate everything that is great about Trafford.

On June 1 the council wants as many residents as possible to hold a ‘Big Trafford Lunch’, a day of street parties across Trafford.

Ideas include a Trafford themed party, dressing up as characters from areas such as Trafford Park or Dunham Massey, a sporting theme celebrating Trafford’s rich sporting heritage, or dressing as people that have put Trafford on the map in the past 40 years.

The council will support residents holding a Big Trafford Lunch on June 1 by:

• Providing Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) free of charge (road closures)
• Paying the cost of public liability insurance
• Procuring professional road closure equipment

Those wanting to hold a street party must register by tomorrow, May 16.
