FOLLOWING last year’s success, Altrincham is once again hosting Trafford College’s Student Market Challenge on May 18.

Supported by Altrincham Forward and Trafford Council as part of Love Your Local Market Fortnight, Trafford College students are promising something for everyone, with a wide range of goods including DIY smoothies, takeaway afternoon teas, special occasion gifts and sweet treats being sold on the day.

There will also be the hugely popular, regular ‘Vintage Fashion and Vintage Furniture Market’.

Nick Johnson, Ddirector of the company that has taken over the operational responsibility for the market, said: “We are delighted with the huge support our regular Sunday markets are receiving from local people and visitors to the area, as we continue the ambitious transformation of the market area.

“It is by working with traders and the local community that we are able to drive forward with our plans and I am confident having the Student Market Challenge operating alongside the Vintage Market will prove a huge draw.

“It is also encouraging to see people continuing to enjoy our regular weekday market, which is remaining open during the transformation and is due to move to its fantastic new home closer to the centre of town in early summer. I would urge anyone who has not visited for a little while to come along and see for themselves just what the market and wider town centre has to offer during in the week and at weekend.”

Trafford College is an enthusiastic Altrincham Forward partner and Assistant Principal Joan Scott said: “These are extremely exciting times for Altrincham. Seeing work continuing on transforming the market area is so good and we are delighted that our students once again have the chance to bring their second Student Market Challenge into town.

We wish them, the Vintage Market stallholders and the wider town centre business and leisure facilities a successful day and, looking ahead, a strong, prosperous and rewarding future.”
