THE Moore family from Trafford will be doing the GM run on behalf of Age UK Trafford to support its dementia services and raise awareness of dementia.

It will be the on May 18, which is also the day before the start of national dementia awareness week, May 19-23 Alan Moore has a diagnosis of dementia, both he and his wife Barbara are supported by Age UK Trafford, and so the family is running together - including Alan, but not Barbara - to both raise funds for Age UK Trafford and raise awareness of dementia.

The funds raised will contribute to the refurbishment of a building recently purchased by Age UK Trafford which will have within it a specific memory loss centre to support both people with dementia and their carers.

Ann Marie Jones, chief executive of Age UK Trafford said: “It’s amazing that the Moore family is running for us in this year’s GM Run.

“Age UK Trafford has provided services and support for people with dementia and their carers in Trafford for over 20 years and it’s great to have this kind of recognition.

“The funds raised will be a brilliant start to our local fundraising campaign for the new building which will house a specific memory loss centre. Our staff will be joining Barbara to cheer them on, as well as one of our dementia advisers also running.”

Following the run, Age UK Trafford will also have a number of events in dementia awareness week. They include a week of cream teas at its specialist dementia day support centres; a Wellbeing Event at Our Lady and English Martyrs, Urmston, on May 21 10.30-2.30pm, with partners from Health Service, Pharmacies, Fire Service, Police and Trading Standards, as well as solicitors, hearing specialists and Thomas Carter Opticians present; and an open advice drop-in at its Urmston Office with dementia advisers available on May 23.
