THREE mums of pupils at a Timperley school will be taking on the BUPA 10k run to raise money for an organ donation charity.

Fran Carroll, Joanne Riley and Claire Lomax, all 42, are taking part in the event on May 18 in memory of St Hugh’s Catholic Primary pupil Luca Giovannini, whose organs were donated after his death, aged five, in November 2011.

Fran’s son, Jack, and Claire’s daughter, Megan, both now eight, were Luca’s best friends, with the Giovannini family being very close to them all.

Fran said: “His loss to the children and to us has been devastating and we feel that the least we can do is a 10k to raise funds for the Donor Family Network who have and still do have a lot of involvement with the family.”

Luca died from a swelling on his brain caused by an infection. His parents decision to donate his organs saved and transformed the lives of four people, including two children, then aged two.

The mums have raised £942 so far and are trying to generate as many further funds as possible as well as highlighting the importance of joining the organ donation register.

Fran hopes their efforts will show that Luca is ‘still greatly remembered’ and said: “We have been training hard for the run since September last year and are excited to do Luca and his family proud.”
