KATE Green, MP for Stretford and Urmston, experienced the travel problems faced by blind people by taking a blindfold bus journey with a guide dog.

Kate took the bus from Urmston to the Trafford Centre completely blindfolded with 19-month-old advanced training dog, Herbie.

Engagement officers at Guide Dogs, Zoe Foster and Emma Allen-Taylor, were on hand to talk Kate through what to expect and how Herbie would respond to her.

Kate’s bus journey highlighted the issues faced by guide dog owners when travelling by bus.

Kate said: “It was an incredible experience to take part in a blindfold bus journey to the Trafford Centre.

“Of course, I only made one short bus journey, but even that helped me understand firsthand the huge challenges which blind and partially sighted people have to face every day.”

As part of their Talking Buses campaign, Guide Dogs have produced a survey seeking feedback from passengers about their experiences travelling on a bus.
