THE sound of choirs in full voice will ring out in Altrincham town centre on Saturday (May 10).

Altrincham’s story will be told in music and song when the town’s recently formed choirs join forces.

They are taking part in the Altrincham Sings project, which has seen choirs set up for mums, pensioners, workers and teenagers - many singing for the first time in their lives.

That is in addition to Altrincham Children’s Choir, which was launched in 2012.

The choirs will join together with a number of other choirs for an hour long performance from 12 noon.

Coronation Street actress and Altrincham resident Sally Dynevor is supporting the project.

She said: “I am delighted to be involved with Altrincham Sings and can’t wait to see the final performance.

“I cannot think of a better way to celebrate our town than hearing so many different sectors of the community united in song.”

Altrincham Sings has been supported by by Waitrose, Thrive Trafford, Altrincham Forward, Merepark and several other businesses and is organised by sisters Claire and Tina O’Brien.

Claire said: “This will be Altrincham’s first major community singing event. The new choirs will be joining with several established choirs to provide a joyous and fun filled performance for shoppers and visitors on a busy Saturday lunchtime.”

The event takes place at the top of Shaws Rd. alongside the Market House, which is currently closed for refurbishment.

Nick Johnson of Market Operations added “ It is very appropriate that this special event is taking place next to the market. Work is now progressing on the restoration of the much loved building and we are planning for it to become a regular venue for music and activities of all kinds.”
