MAKERS of a new film about the life of Cilla Black have turned to an Urmston vintage shop to provide some of the props.

ITV are currently filming the biopic in locations across Liverpool, Manchester and New York, documenting the singer’s rise to fame in the 1960s.

And to ensure the film is authentic as possible, the film makers have sourced genuine period pieces from Mrs M Vintage, on Flixton Road.

Mrs M herself, Helen Maguire, only opened the shop six months ago, but has already had tremendous success.

“I’ve always had an interest in the 1950s and 60s and people kept telling me I should open my own shop, so I did,” said the 41-year-old.

“It’s quite a new thing for Urmston, there has never really been anything like this before.”

The mum-of-three said the film’s prop-designer mainly wanted ceramics and fabrics for a bedroom scene, but plans to return to the store as she is from Urmston herself and wants to source as much as possible from the area.

However, Mrs M Vintage stocks a range of vintage wares, from clothes and fabric to furniture and home wares.

Helen sources all her items from vintage fairs, something she has been doing as a ‘hobby’ for years, but is thrilled to have turned it into a full-time job.

“I’ve got three daughters and the oldest two help out in the shop sometimes so it really is a family business,” said Helen.

“It’s going really well, I’m hoping more people outside of Urmston will get to know us now.”
