I READ with interest the letter from Monica Moore of Sale, published in last week’s Messenger.
As Monica points out in her letter, people with a dementia generally respond well to social interaction, stimulation and activities to promote independence.
Day support is certainly a positive way to achieve all this, and at the same time gives carers some much needed respite.
At Age UK Trafford we have two full time dementia advisers who can not only help families access day support across the borough, but also provide ongoing support from initial diagnosis through to helping to find longer term solutions to problems which can occur with dementia.
We hold regular meetings in Urmston and Hale, make home visits, can assist in completing benefit applications, we publish a regular newsletter, provide social events and activities, and provide a much needed listening ear for people with dementia and their carers.
We are not GPs but if you are suffering with memory problems or care for someone who does then Age UK Trafford may be a good place for you to start.
We have more than 20 years’ experience of providing dementia support in the borough and can be contacted on 0161 746 3944 or via our website ageuktrafford.org.uk where you can also find a link which will show a video clip of our specialist dementia services.
