Three banks in Sale, Altrincham and Didsbury burgled within four days of each other
THREE banks were burgled in Sale, Altrincham and Didsbury in the space of a few days.
Halifax on George Street, Altrincham, was burgled overnight on January 1, Halifax on School Road, Sale, was targeted at 2am on January 4 and Halifax on Wilmslow Road, Didsbury was burgled later that day between 7pm and 7.10pm.
In both the Altrincham and Didsbury incidents, offenders climbed onto the buildings’ roofs before removing tiles to gain access.
In the Sale incident, the offenders entered the bank by smashing a glass door at the front of the building.
Nothing was stolen in any of the incidents.
Three men, seen at the Sale burglary are being sought by police.
They are described as being around 6ft tall and were wearing black tracksuits, balaclavas and white pumps.
In each case, the alarm was activated and police arrived at the scene.
Det Con Jonathan Urmson, from the South Manchester Division, said: “These burglaries happened in a four day period in early January and we believe they are linked and were coordinated by the same group of offenders.
“They all happened overnight whilst the banks were closed, as a result any disruption or suspicious activity may have been especially noticeable, particularly during the Didsbury incident which happened in the early evening.
“Nobody was hurt but there was extensive damage to walls, roofs and interiors costing thousands of pounds and causing major disruption to local customers.
“We are asking any members of the public who might remember seeing any unusual activity around the times of these incidents to let us know.”
Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4973 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
