MANCHESTER Road in Broadheath is currently closed in both directions following a two car collision.

Crews from Altrincham, Sale and Leigh fire stations were called to the incident, close to Altrincham Fire Station, at around 1.30pm.

The firefighters freed two people who were trapped in their vehicles, one of whom was an 82-year-old woman.

Fire service trauma technicians treated her for suspected spinal and leg injuries and she was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The other casualty, also female, was also taken to hospital.

The Highways Agency is reporting that an Air Ambulance has landed at the Navigation Bowling Green.

Traffic is queuing both ways and motorists are advised to avoid the area between Barrington Road and Navigation Road, near to the Altrincham Fire Station.

Bus services to and from Altrincham Interchange will be affected.
