ONE of Trafford College’s talented Building Services students has been recognised at the annual BEST North West of England regional training awards, which were celebrated at a glittering dinner dance at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton last month.

The event was hosted by B&ES chairman, Steve Bradshaw, who addressed the audience and presented the award to the talented student. Guy Davies, (31), received the highest award in his category – Engineering Technician of the Year – beating off fierce competition from some of the most talented students in the North West.

Guy, who works for Drayton Beaumont Services, in Stoke-on-Trent, successfully completed his National Diploma in Building Services at Trafford College achieving excellent grades and has since progressed onto a HNC.

He was praised for his commitment and dedication by his peers at the college and in his workplace.

Cheering him on at the ceremony was Trafford College tutor, Michel Baker.

Michael said: “As Guy’s programme manager, I am extremely pleased that he has been recognised for his achievements and progress from a professional organisation outside of the education sector.

“The award is testament to his hard work and dedication, and also to the work that we do with students.”

Guy added: “‘I was delighted to win the award as it is a great addition to my CV and it was really great to be recognised in this way.

“I found myself studying at Trafford College following an industrial accident which means that I have had to take up an office based role.

“My time studying has been hard work yet very rewarding. I feel I have gained some very important design skills and have re-discovered some learning techniques which I wouldn't usually use in my day to day role.”
