TRAFFORD’S Society for Abandoned Animals has raised more than £73,000 to rebuild and renovate its cat facilities, and is appealing to the community to help it finish the project.
Money has been obtained through its ‘buy a brick’ scheme and several grants, including from Jean Sainsbury Animal WelfareTrust and Support Adoption for Pets.
Improvements will include a new quarantine unit, a bigger cat re-homing area with more pens and solar panels to generate sustainable electricity.
Additionally, a brand new cattery will be built – this will enable the charity to generate much-need funds and eventually render the cat centre self-sufficient in both resources and money.
However, the sanctuary, off Dane Road, Sale, is looking for more help with the project – extra money is needed for the purchase of 27 individual cat pens, which cost £1,000 each.
It is asking businesses and schools to sponsor pens, via one-off donations or organising fundraising events such as bake sales – the society will display organisations’ names alongside their sponsored pens as a reminder of the difference they have made.
On May 11, the society will be holding a ‘cat welfare day’ on-site at its base at Mosley Acre Farm, Barfoot Bridge, off Dane Road, Sale, where it will be offering low-cost micro-chipping, free health checks, and advice on all elements of cat care.
