OLD Trafford primary school children were treated to a special breakfast after they walked to school on Friday.

And Kate Green, MP for Stretford and Urmston, also paid a visit to St Hilda's School, on Warwick Road South, to support the pupils’ first and successful walk to school breakfast.

Parents of St Hilda’s students left their cars at home or, if they lived too far away, at St Hilda’s Church to ‘Park and Stride’ from there.

All families who walked to school were treated to a free and healthy breakfast, with cereal provided by Kellogg’s, once they arrived at school.

Ms Green also saw the launch of St Hilda’s brand new junior traffic warden scheme, where pupils issued ‘parking tickets’ to anyone parking dangerously or inconsiderately.

St Hilda’s is planning to run the Walk to School Breakfast once a term, following the success of the pilot walk.

Traffic safety around schools is one of the issues Ms Green has campaigned on since the launch of her Safer Trafford Streets campaign last year in response to the road safety concerns of Stretford and Urmston residents.

She said: “It was great to attend St Hilda's first Walk to School Breakfast.
“I really enjoyed meeting the junior traffic wardens – it’s a brilliant initiative to raise awareness of dangerous and inconsiderate parking around schools.

“I look forward to continuing to work with St Hilda’s to make our streets in Trafford safer.”
