A CYCLIST was left with serious injuries after a lorry overturned on Chester Road, Stretford.

The incident forced police to close Junction 7 of the M60, causing severe traffic disruption close to Old Trafford football ground, where a Manchester United game was taking place.

The lorry overturned at around 10am, on March 26, as it attempted to cross the Barton Road roundabout – where it collided with a 54-year-old male cyclist.

Paramedics attended and treated the cyclist at the scene, before taking him to Manchester Royal Hospital.

He has since been discharged.

Crews from Stretford, Sale and Ashton fire stations also attended and helped treat the 64-year-old male lorry driver, who had sustained cuts and bruises.

He was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital and has since been discharged.

Crews remained to help police with traffic calming measures, but traffic in the area remained heavily congested for several hours.
