THE Our Altrincham group wants to hear from volunteers to help clear up the town after the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon.

It is putting together a team to clean up the race route – and cheer on the runners.

Last year, Altrincham Town Centre Partnership organised entertainment and as a result of their combined efforts, Altrincham won the 'best community' award and a £500 prize, as voted for by the runners themselves.

Half the prize money was invested in 2,000 daffodil bulbs, currently flowering along Oakfield Road between the leisure centre and ATS.

They were planted by residents, Altrincham Air Cadets and Trafford Housing Trust's Youth Team.

The marathon is on April 6 and the Altrincham team will be cleaning up the race route along with the Timperley Tidiers and Sale Wombles.

They will be covering the town centre and Stockport Road as far as the Hare and Hounds pub from 9.45am until 1.30pm.

This event is for adult litter pickers and supervised children aged 10 and over. Volunteers must be able to attend a pre-event briefing at Kings Court Café at 7pm on April 3.
