TRAFFORD Council has launched a guide aimed at residents leaving the armed forces and making the transition into ‘Civvy Street’.

The council produced the guide in recognition that the process can be a challenging and daunting time for the estimated 24,000 people who leave the forces each year.

The informative guide has been produced to assist residents and former army personnel who have moved to the borough once they have left the forces, with the aim of providing them with useful information to help ease them into their new surroundings.

Cllr Michael Hyman, executive councillor for economic growth and prosperity said: “The guide provides invaluable information on a wide range of support available throughout the borough, including advice on housing, health, money and debt advice and employment and training opportunities.

“Our ex-military residents really deserve a helping hand back into civilian life.”
Mikey North, who plays ex-soldier Gary Windass in Coronation Street has also pledged his support.

Mikey said: “Our troops put their lives on the line to make the world a safer place, so it's only right that we should be helping them to make the move into civilian life easier.

“It’s great that this directory exists to help servicemen and women find out about the services that are available to them in Trafford once they leave the Forces.”

Alternatively, copies of the guide are also available from all Trafford libraries.
