AS part of the ‘Taste of Sunrise’ – a campaign to promote nutritious eating among seniors – Sunrise of Hale Barns invited residents, friends and neighbours to a week of gourmet cooking events.

The dishes served took guests’ taste buds around the world in just five days, all from the comfort of the senior living community.

On Monday, it was a trip across the Channel to France for an assiette of desserts, then on Tuesday diners were treated to the tastes of the Mediterranean with a Greek meze.

A traditional afternoon tea was served on Wednesday, followed by Oriental canapés on Thursday, wrapped up by crab and sole fishcakes on Friday.

People attending were also able to pick up a series of recipe cards - a small selection of Sunrise’s chefs' favourite recipes which provide easy, step-by-step instructions plus all the nutritional information for each recipe, giving everyone a chance to recreate a Taste of Sunrise at home.

Emma Jefferson, director of community relations at Sunrise of Hale Barns, said: “We all had a wonderful week. The events were a great chance to celebrate Taste of Sunrise and a chance to talk to people about the need for a nutritious diet as you grow older.

“We want to thank our dining team who work hard every day to ensure every single resident receives exceptional food which meets their individual needs, and that our residents enjoy the highest quality of care. We are so proud of them.

“Dining for a lot of our residents is the focal part of the day and it is important that what they are served gives them something to look forward to.”
