TRAFFORD Council, along with partner agencies, is taking part in a ‘week of action’ in Altrincham until March 24.

The focus has been put on on a number of issues, such as litter, dog fouling and business waste, to raise awareness of environmental and safety issues in the area.

This includes targeted enforcement of dog fouling on Lloyd Gardens, New Street and the Broomwood Estate, to remind residents of their responsibility to clean up after their dog.

To thank responsible dog owners, those who are seen to clean up after their dog will be handed a card and entered into a prize draw. Road shows at Tesco in Altrincham and the Co-op in Hale Village, will provide information around anti-social behaviour, burglary prevention and environmental issues will be distributed to local residents.

A tree planting event will take place in Newton Park with children from Park Road Primary School, in response to complaints that existing trees have suffered from vandalism. The council is hoping to recruit a number of Street Champions over the week. These are volunteers who act as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the community, to help get things fixed and make a real difference to their local area.

Council Officers will also be out and about visiting community groups and the elderly, offering advice on rogue traders, doorstep safety and burglary prevention and advising them on how to stay safe. Executive councillor Alan Mitchell said: “There’s lots going on this week and it is a great opportunity for us to engage with local residents and business on the issues that are really important to them.

“We hope that by working with the local community and highlighting the negative effect of problems such as dog fouling and littering, will go some way in eradicating the problem, making Altrincham a more pleasant place to live.”
