A SALE grandmother is to abseil down Old Trafford football stadium in order to raise money for the Christie.

Sylvia Brocklehurst, who will be 75 next month, will be joined by her two teenage grandsons when she undertakes the daredevil feat on March 23 – but the idea was hers not theirs.

“I just thought I should do something completely out of my comfort zone,” said Sylvia.

“It was my idea, I roped them in – my grandson Liam said he’d sponsor me and I said ‘I was hoping for a bit more than that’.”

Sylvia, who is afraid of heights, will abseil down the back of Manchester United’s world famous ground and land on the pitch.

Luckily the grandmother will have her grandsons – Liam Saberton, who is 19, and studying at Leeds University and Ben Scanlon, who is 17, and is in the Sixth Form at Ashton on Mersey School – alongside her on the day.

“Ben’s only 17 so he can only do it if an adult accompanies him, so I can’t back out of it now,” she joked.

Sylvia, who lives on Witley Drive, had cancer around 12 months ago and is now in remission, but her niece, Donna, is currently being treated in the Christie.

“It’s just such a good cause and luckily I was fine, but some people aren’t as lucky,” she said.
