A FAMILY centre which has undergone three years of renovation work finally opened its doors, with Trafford Mayor Dylan Butt officially opening the centre, writes Tom Dyson.

The facility, 4 Cheeky Monkeys Family Centre in Sale, offers help, support and advice to a variety of people depending on their family needs.

From education to drug abuse, the support team is on hand to listen to people’s queries and contact the relevant professionals.

It also offers a toddler group with play sessions, childminder groups and story sessions, the services aimed at families with children aged up to five.

A pre-opening on February 28 allowed the team to thank everyone who helped and supported their journey by giving people the chance to see the work that had gone into the centre.

On March 3, the centre opened to families and children, as Princess Belle from Beauty and the Beast attended to mark the occasion.

Jeneane Warhurst, 32, and her mum Lesley, 50, began the project to renovate the dilapidated building after being disappointed with the lack of accessible amenities for families needing extra support.

Jeneane, who has worked as a childminder for nearly 10 years, said: “When we first took this project on, the building was like a dumping ground.

“It was so difficult renovating. There was an awful lot of work to do which included lots of late nights, lots of decorating and filling in grant application forms.

“There were 24 teenage volunteers who got involved to help paint murals on the walls and generally brighten the place up.”

The mother and daughter team initially put their own money into the scheme but ran out and had to re-register as a company.

Jeneane added: “I can’t thank everybody enough for all the work they have put in to this centre.”
