MORE than 1,600 pupils from Wellington School braved the early morning rain last Friday to walk 10 miles around the streets of Timperley, all thanks to a chance meeting between two pupils and a Coronation Street star.

Erin Storey and Millie Worthington, Year 10 pupils at the Timperley school, were dining at Annie’s in Manchester last year when they bumped into Jennie McAlpine, who plays Fiz Stape in the ITV soap.

The girls discovered that Jennie, who is part owner of the restaurant, is patron of MoodSwings, a charity run by her father Tom. The two girls decided to act there and then by persuading pupils to choose MoodSwings, which supports young people with mental health problems, as the chosen charity for their school’s annual sponsored walk.

The Wellington walk is now in its eighteenth year and during that time pupils have raised over £300,000 for good causes.
