CHILDREN’S charity, the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust (CAFT), is appealing for people of all fitness levels to join it in 2014 for one of its many challenge events.

Each event will raise vital funds for the charity which provides life-changing holidays in Cheshire for terminally ill, disabled and disadvantaged children from all over the north west.

The charity has a programme of challenge events which will take place throughout the year, from skydiving to cycling 500km across Costa Rica.

On May 18 Millington-based CAFT wants to enter its largest ever team into the Great Manchester 10k. In 2013 Team CAFT was 100 runners strong.

CAFT is asking both individuals and teams to support it.

Individuals can run for CAFT for a £25 registration fee and £100 fundraising target.

Teams of five or more can register for £20 per person, each member of the team must raise at least £80.

The charity is also calling for adventurous people to take on a trekking challenge of a lifetime in Iceland in July.

Currently it has 19 walkers who have registered for the trek, which will see them hiking 55km over three days across lava fields, mountains and glaciers.

There’s still space on their team for anyone wishing to join the trek, which will take place between July 2 and 6.

There will be a £99 registration fee to pay for each participant and each must pledge to raise a minimum of £1,699.

Jenny O’Hare, fundraiser at CAFT, and organiser of both the Manchester 10k and the Iceland trek, as well as many other challenges, said: “These are two very different challenges, but they have one thing in common – they will both involve a group of amazing people working hard physically and emotionally to complete a personal challenge and raise funds for some very special children.

“We have been running challenge events for many years now, in fact last year we had a group of 20 brave individuals who spent three weeks in the Himalayas trekking to Everest Base Camp.

“Not all challenges need to be that extreme, but all will give the participant a huge sense of achievement for taking themselves out of their comfort zone and helping to put smiles on the faces of children who have sadly known far too much hardship.”

The charity relies entirely on donations and support in order to raise the £1million it needs to continue its work.
