A MAN in Timperley was punched in the face by a robber who tried to steal his phone.

The incident happened on Brook Lane.

A 22-year-old man had travelled on the tram from Altrincham and got off at the Navigation Road stop.

The man began to run from the metrolink to a nearby house, and was followed by a man who had also been travelling on the same tram.

The incident happened on February 28 shortly after 8.40pm and the offender grabbed hold of the man and punched him in the face, before stealing his wallet and running back towards the tram station.

The victim ran after the thief, who then threw his wallet towards him, before he was met by a group and made off in their company towards Brook Lane.

The offender is white and described as approximately 18 years old, 5ft 10in tall, average build and was wearing a black jacket (possibly a fleece) with a hood.

Det Con David Wood, based at Altrincham police station said: “We are appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident, or who may have seen the offender walking off with the group of men and women afterwards, to contact us.

“We believe that some members of the group may have told the offender to leave the victim alone. If you were one of these people, and were likely appalled by what you had just seen this man do, then please search your conscience and give us a call to assist us with our enquiries. You can pass on information anonymously if you need to.”
