MODERN missionaries from St. Antony's Catholic College are to travel to the heart of Romania to support some of the poorest communities in Europe.

It will be the Urmston school's fourth visit to poverty stricken Transylvania and the students are expecting a culture shock.

Trip co-ordinator and St. Antony's Head of Drama Michael Mitchell said: “The differences between the two countries are astonishing. The school in Sibiu in Romania is just two concrete classrooms, with very few resources and no modern media technology. However the children take their education very seriously because they all realise it is their only way out.”

The party travels to Transylvania at the start of July and will stay in a youth hostel, travelling by minibus to the school in Sibiu. The next fundraising event is an Irish night at St. Antony's on Bradfield Road on March 14 at 7pm.
