A NEW development in Old Trafford comprising apartments and office space has been given the green light.

The application was considered by Trafford Council’s planning committee for the construction of a seven storey building and a four to six storey building, both containing 95 apartments and commercial office space, together with 137 car parking spaces.

Currently a Total garage and hand car wash occupy the proposed site for construction, a small site surrounded by Chester Road, Stretford Road and Nuttall Street.

Residents were notified recently, with one letter of objection concerning loss of privacy and inadequate parking provision, resulting in added congestion on the surrounding streets.

A petition of 21 names was received regarding the same concerns.

The car parking proposal includes two levels of basement parking underneath the two buildings.

Plans were submitted during the course of the application which detailed the layout and design which would incorporate a new road entrance with access from Nuttall Street.

According to Emery Planning Partnership’s planning statement, as a result of increased competition from nearby supermarket petrol stations which various discount incentives, Total garage will soon close.

As a result this would mean the pumps, the car wash business, the shop and demountable buildings would have to be removed.

The planning committee agreed that it was minded to grant the application subject to legal agreement.
