Tram upgrade work affects services

CHANGES are being made to Manchester’s Metrolink as part of its multi-million pound transformation.

From today, February 24, for approximately nine months, trams will have to pass through Victoria in both directions on a single line of track.

As a result, for the duration of the work, every Bury to Altrincham service will be served by double trams from start to end of service, boosting capacity at the busiest times.

The service running from Bury to Altrincham, via St. Peter’s Square, will be every 12 minutes.

Peter Cushing, Transport for Greater Manchester’s Metrolink director, said: “We’ve considered these changes very carefully and they will provide customers with the most effective, safest and least disruptive option. They also mirror demand we’ve monitored on the network.”

Something not mentioned in the article is that the Altrincham-Piccadill
y Station Metrolink service has been reduced to only operate between 0700 and 2000 on Monday to Friday (0900 to 2045 on Saturdays). Altrincham-Bury has become the "main" service operating approximately between 0600 and 2345 (0045 on Friday and Saturday nights). Before 0700 and after 2000 passengers travelling between the Altrincham line and Piccadilly Station or between PIccadilly Station and the Altrincham line need to change at St Peter's Square for a connecting tram. The Eccles tram from Piccadilly Station will take you to St Peter's Square.
