STRETFORD and Urmston MP Kate Green hosted a discussion on how to give people more support in accessing and using the internet She hosted the event in association with Your Housing Group, at their offices in Partington, to talk about how support in using the internet can be offered to Partington residents and the wider community.

There is a higher than average number of people in Partington who don’t use the internet, with two thirds of claimants having no internet access or knowledge at all.

Representatives from a number of key organisations came along including the Department for Work and Pensions, JobCentre Plus, Trafford Housing Trust, Trafford College, charity Antz Junction and Partington Councillors.

Ms Green also visited Your Housing Group’s Big Life Project where she chatted to residents about their experiences with applying for benefits online.

She said: “I really enjoyed the discussions about how different organisations from across Trafford and the north west, can work together to make sure that people have internet access and knowledge.

“With so many key services going online, from benefits to banking, it’s really important that everyone who needs to be is clued up on how to use the web and has access to a computer.

“It was great to talk to people about their experiences of applying for their benefits online and it really brought home how difficult it is for people when the system is getting more and more complicated.

“I would like to thank Your Housing Group for their support in running this event and look forward to working with them to get residents online in the future.”
