POLICE closed Barton Bridge this evening after an accident involving an HGV.

North West Motorway Police tweeted that both carriageways were closed after the HGV overturned on to a car between junction s 10 and 11.

The matrix signs on the M60 were set earloer to 50 mph between junctions 10 (Trafford Centre) and 11 (Barton) as winds picked up.

The Chill Factore has also closed because of the weather. A spokesman issued the following statement: "Important, we are now closed for the rest of today - guests with bookings will be contacted in due course. Sorry for the inconvenience."

Thelwall Viaduct on the M6 was closed in both directions this afternoon, causing congestion on the M62 as drivers tried to avoid closure.
