PUPILS from across Manchester spent an action-packed week at Sale Fire Station learning new skills and firefighting techniques.
The ten youngsters were taking part in a course called Firefly, run by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) to provide skills, development and qualifications for those who are struggling with their education.
Firefly is a five-day course run by firefighters for young people aged 13-16 to improve self-esteem through instilling the values of GMFRS.
The pupils came onto the course through GMFRS’ established partners in Trafford – Altrincham College of Arts, Stretford High School, Flixton Girls’ School and Broadoak High School.
Over the course of the five days, the youngsters learned skills in firefighting, physical challenges, team building, home safety awareness, first aid, consequences of antisocial behaviour and communication and life skills.
On completion of the course, the pupils received a portfolio of their achievements, including photos and certificates.
