MEMORIES are made of this ...
These striking images date back to May 8, 1977 and capture an important day in the history of the Bollin Morris group.
It was the first dance out of revived Cheshire dances by the recently established group’.
They can be seen going through their routine in front of the Greyhound pub in Ashley.
Bollin Morris was started at the end of 1976 with the aim of researching and performing the traditional morris dances from Cheshire which had last been performed in the 1920s and 1930s.
The team was fortunate to have the guidance of Eric Benson, who had danced with an Altrincham team at that time, and he taught members the routines.
Eric is in the middle of the photo with three musicians.
The team is still going strong, its website is BollinMorris.org.
The group sent in the images for a photographic gallery that celebrates our readers’ most important moments from the past four decades.
The gallery is being set up as part of joint 40th anniversary celebrations by the Sale and Atrincham Messenger and Best Western Cresta Court hotel.
A selection of the best photographs will be chosen by Messenger editor, Keith Morris, and be used in a special free gallery, with owners and guests invited to a VIP launch event at the hotel on February 25.
Photographs, either prints or digital images, should be sent to the Editor, Messenger Newspapers, Alexander House, 94 Talbot Road, Old Trafford, Stretford, M16 0PG, or by email to email@example.com, along with up to 100 words explaining what they show, and why it was such an important moment, as well as the sender’s name and contact details.
The closing date for submissions has been put back until Monday, February 10.
