SORTING through some old photos, I found these pictures I took in August 1976 or 1977, when I lived in Newlyn Drive.
One photo shows some intrepid Messenger delivery men carrying on in spite of the flood.
As well as Newlyn Drive, Dalebrook Road, Buxton Crescent and part of Craddock Road. were also flooded.
As far as I remember, only one house (on Buxton Crescent) suffered minor flooding.
The cause was the Baguley Broook overflowing in a thunderstrom.
Some idiot had thrown a bed mattress into the brook, which was then washed downstream until it blocked the culvert under Brooklands Road.
Hope this is of interest, given all the flooding stories in the news at the moment.
