ALTRINCHAM Rotary Club is continuing to speed from one fundraising success to another - more than eight decades after it was formed.

The club recently held its 84th charter (birthday) at the Cresta Court Hotel, Altrincham, attended by more than 100 Rotarians and guests, including the Mayor of Trafford, Cllr Dylan Butt and his wife Farah.

During the evening, Cllr Butt sat in a classic Chevron B1, as his wife, Farah, and club president David Williams looked on. Mr Williams is a motorsport association steward and clerk of the course for circuit racing and speed events.

Altrincham Rotary Club was formed in 1929, one of the first in the country. It has more than 30 members.

The charter was read out by the latest member, 42-year-old Steven McHugh.

Cllr Butt praised the club for its backing for projects both in Trafford and worldwide.

This year the club has supported the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust, the Salvation Army and the Mayor’s charity to provide defibrillators.

Street collections were also held which raised money for the Philippines Disaster appeal and ‘emergency boxes’ were dispatched to the area.
