CLLR Jane Brophy has been selected as prospective parliamentary candidate (PPC) by Altrincham and Sale West Liberal Democrats.

She was picked at a packed meeting in Timperley on January 22.

The seat is held by the Conservative's Graham Brady.

She said: “I am delighted that Altrincham and Sale West Liberal Democrats members have again put their trust in me as our next parliamentary candidate.

“The next general election will be in 2015 and the Lib Dems are ready to take on both Labour and the Conservatives.”

Cllr Brophy has served as a Trafford councillor for 14 years - for eight years in Village ward and for six years in Timperley ward. She has lived in Altrincham for 24 years.

She went to school in Manchester and then moved to Leeds to complete a degree in biochemistry from the University of Leeds as well as a post-graduate qualification in nutrition and dietetics.

She returned to the area in 1990 to work as a researcher and nutritionist for the Altrincham based national charity, the Vegetarian Society (UK).

Since then Jane has worked across Greater Manchester as an NHS health professional.

She has been married to John, a computer specialist, for more than two decades and they have three grown-up children.

She joined the Liberal Democrats in 1986 and went on to be chairman of the national youth organisation. She spent a year working for the Liberal Democrat MPs in the House of Commons, and has been an elected member of the party’s policy and conference committees.
