TRAFFORD residents are being urged to sign up for an energy saving scheme which will give them a range of choices to save money on their energy bills.

By joining up to a collective energy switching scheme they could make massive reductions to the cost of heating their homes.

Everyone who registers an interest will be given a range of different options to save money, but it is thought residents will be able to save up to £250 a year by switching energy suppliers through the scheme.

The collective bulk buy scheme is supported by Greater Manchester councils. Residents can visit betterenergydeals.org.uk or call 0800 988 2426.

A pair of similar energy switching schemes held last year meant that 4,577 households were able to cut more than half a million pounds off their bills, but it is now hoped even greater savings can be made this year. Residents need to provide basic information, such as which gas and electricity suppliers they use and how much they pay a month, to register an interest.

The organisers will hold a ‘reverse auction’ on March 4, in which energy suppliers will bid for their business by offering their best prices. However, residents don’t have to accept this offer – and they will also be given a range of alternative offers available at the time based on how much energy they use. Although the scheme will be targeted directly at people living in Greater Manchester, it will be open to anyone in the UK to join.

Helen Jones, corporate director of economic growth and prosperity, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Trafford residents to stay warm and save money. “High energy prices affect everyone but by comparing and switching, there are some great savings to be made. I would encourage everyone who is concerned about energy prices to take-up this quick and easy scheme and join the auction on 4 March.”

To help Trafford residents further, the Get Me Toasty Scheme is also still available in the Borough. This could see Trafford residents saving more than £300 a year by applying for a new boiler, £180 a year through loft insulation or £140 by applying for cavity wall insulation.
