PLANS have been unveiled for a nursery in Broadheath that will create up to 65 jobs.

The development is earmarked for land off Manchester Road between Beaconsfield and Viaduct Road.

The scheme, being brought forward by Broadheath based property developers, Selbourne Group, and local childcare providers, Kids Allowed, would provide 160 nursery places.

Selbourne Group and Kids Allowed say the scheme will cater for the lack of high quality childcare in the area for families who live and work locally, and residents have helped shape the plans.

A public exhibition was held last February 2013 and all feedback has been carefully considered in the preparation of the final scheme, say the developers.

After listening to the views of residents, councillors and council officers, the scheme has been considerably changed and now offers a mixture of local brick and modern glazing, to try to ensure the new nursery integrates into the surrounding area.

Feedback from residents has also helped shape a traffic management plan and redesign of the car park to divert traffic away from nearby residential roads to address concerns raised by neighbouring residents.

Issues raised by residents of Beaconsfield and Churchhill Road regarding noise from children at the nursery have also been addressed by providing specialist acoustic fencing to the eastern boundary of the development to reduce noise levels for these local residents.

Michael De Massey, managing director of the Selbourne Group, said: “Over the past year, we have listened carefully to the feedback of local residents and community organisations and the recommendations of Trafford Council.

“We really appreciate all views given and we have worked hard to incorporate as many of the comments and suggestions made into final design.

“We now believe the scheme will not only deliver a much-needed nursery, but one which reflects the requirements and aspirations of local people.

“We would also like to reassure local residents that as a local business we are committed to investing in Broadheath for the long term by creating high quality developments and providing employment opportunities.”

Jennie Johnson, chief executive of Kids Allowed, said: “As a local and family owned childcare company, we are passionate about providing high quality childcare, as well as meeting the needs and expectations of family life.

“Our market research shows that there is an overwhelming demand from local families for high quality childcare in the Broadheath and wider Altrincham area which needs to be addressed.

“We remain confident that the Broadheath nursery will respond to this lack of childcare provision in the area and will be a positive addition to the local community.”

While the final plans have now been submitted to Trafford Council, the developers say they remain committed to engaging with the community. LeafletS have been distributed to nearly 15,000 residents to provide details of the final plans and provide a further opportunity for people to have their say.
