SWIMMERS at Urmston Leisure Centre had to be evacuated after a child fouled in the water.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, January 2, forced the pool to close for several hours.

A spokesman for Trafford Leisure Trust said the pool was immediately closed for health and safety reasons and has since been cleaned and treated.

The spokesman added: “For some reason it seems to happen quite a lot, particularly in Urmston.

“We opened up the small pool in Stretford and directed customers there in the meantime.”

Cllr Paul Lalley said: “After an unfortunate incident forced the pool closure at Urmston Leisure Centre on January 2, it was pleasing to see the Trafford Leisure Trust think quickly to make the teaching pool at Stretford open to members of the public that afternoon, a welcomed and appreciated common sense approach.

“A special thanks to John Spill, deputy manager at Stretford who accommodated this action.”
